Jacques — 2021
I had the thrill of designing the visual identity for "Jacques", a bold poetic and musical adventure brought to life by my friend Greg Houben, a phenomenal jazz trumpeter. This wasn’t just any event—it was one of the very first live shows to break ground during the Covid era, thanks to its open-air format. The excitement and the nerves? Unforgettable.
The artistic direction for the visual identity naturally leaned into collages, a nod to Jacques Prévert’s multifaceted creativity. Beyond poetry and music, Prévert was also known for his striking collage art—a perfect inspiration to capture the eclectic and layered spirit of the event.
On stage, the dynamic duo of Nicolas Buysse and Greg Houben reimagine Prévert’s world with a surreal twist, blending humor, tenderness, and rebellion. Picture this: a glass of red wine in hand, a cigarette dangling, hats tipped just so—these “Jacques” bring the poet’s iconic works to life in words and music, with the brilliant Matthieu Van on piano.
The twist? Each audience member gets their own headphones, making the performance an intimate, almost whispered experience. Poetry, jazz, and a touch of magic—Prévert would’ve loved it.
